A House for Hermit Crab Lapbook and Unit Study

We are loving unit studies and lapbooks!

Our A House for Hermit Crab study included:

  • Lapbook
  • Ocean Diorama
  • Popsicle Stick Puppets (made with storybook patterns)
  • Great Books

We learned about creatures living in the ocean, animal homes, shells, the months of the year, and different kinds of houses. We also made vocabulary cards, reviewed the Bible story about the man who built his house upon the rock, and Elijah practiced learning his address.

The lapbook for A House for Hermit Crab is a free download at Homeschool Share.

Ocean Diorama Project for A House for Hermit Crab

Supplies:

  • shoebox
  • plastic wrap
  • fishing line
  • blue paint
  • sand
  • seashells
  • ocean animals cut from magazines
  • bubble stickers (optional)
  • construction paper (for seaweed, extra animals, or whatever your child wants!)

An adult can cut out the bottom of the box. Cover with plastic wrap.

Paint the back of the lid blue (like water). While it is drying, add glue to the bottom of the box. Let your student sprinkle sand. Hot glue shells to the sandy area. If desired, make fish and hang them from the top of the box with fishing line. After the blue lid is dry, add ocean animals and seaweed, as desired. Place lid on the box. All done!

The lapbook is adorable! You have inspired me to make one too. My children will love it. They too are fascinated with all God has created including the ocean and such! So beautiful! Great job!
