Z is for Zoo

Read to Me

Our main book of the week was Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann.

Alphabet Art- Zebra Z

Okay, okay.  I know this does NOT look like a zebra.  It’s not a zebra.  It’s a Zebra Z.  My original idea was to buy rick-rack and make a zig-zag Z.  I couldn’t find any at Michael’s or Meijer, so I stopped trying.  I found this Z at No Time for Flashcards and thought it was nifty, but I don’t draw zebra heads.

Simon thinks it’s a great z-z-zebra. So, that’s all that really matters!

Supplies
Pattern (I used the large capital Z)
electrical tape
two large googly eyes
glue
scissors

I cut strips of electrical tape and Simon smacked them down on the Z.

He glued on some large googly eyes.  I cut out the Z, and that was that.

Lessons & Lapbook
I used the lessons and lapbook from Homeschool Share.  I also used one of the Z printables from the Alphabet Notebook page at Homeschool Share.

Song Accordion (Simon glued the animals to the correct pages.)

The five colored cages store keys and animals for a fun hide and seek game.  I would hide the color-coded keys around the room and Simon would find them in order to "unlock" the cages and find out which animal was hiding inside.

back side- Z is for ZOO!

Animals (used with lessons for different things) out of the pocket.

Simon also found some real locks and keys in one of his workboxes.  This was a challenging puzzle for him (to match the right key to the right lock and unlock), but he was really excited each time he was able to free a lock.  I’m not sure why I want to teach my three year old how to unlock things, but it was fun for him.
