Super Simple Cookie Cutter Stencils

October 25, 2011 by Ami 1 Comment

Simon doesn't complain about his pre-writing pages; I think he might even like them. But I wanted to add a little spice & jazz to his fine motor options. Something simple. Something easy. Maybe stencil tracing.

I didn't want to buy stencils {cheap!}. I didn't really want to make stencils {lazy!}. While I was washing dishes and having this conversation with myself, I noticed the cookie cutters (just waiting) in a drawer. Aha! Cookie cutters.

I took a cookie cutter and pressed it on a piece of fun foam. (No tracing for mama!)

The cutters left generous imprints; I think they were just happy to escape the dark drawer. I cut the stencils out.

This project took me 5 minutes and 37 seconds from start to finish. Love.

Let the tracing begin!

After the tracing, the starfish needed eyes and a creepy smile. The pumpkin needed a jack-o-lantern face with lots of purple . . . thick purple.

This all translated into more fine motor fun (and creative thinking)! I might even ask Simon to cut out his creations at the end of the next stencil-color fest.

I have dozens of cookie cutters. Soon we'll have dozens of stencils. Maybe you will, too.
