Ed Emberley’s Birthday

October 21, 2011 by Ami 5 Comments

The first time I spied an Ed Emberley drawing book, I knew. I knew that these were the books for Elijah (who draws in a very similar simple style and who loves step-by-step directions).

When I found out that October 19th is Mr. Emberley's birthday, I knew. I knew we would plan a special day of art inspired by him.

And when my friend told me October 19th also happens to be National Chocolate Cupcake Day, I knew our day would be art and yum.

Elijah used Picture Pie to create a pleasing peacock from cut circles. We'll be checking this book out again!

We used various Ed Emberley drawing books to make creatures for Sarah Jane's spooky houses. Boo!

Elijah used the Drawing Book of Faces to create nine unique characters.

The boys worked together to make this rainbow dragon (from The Complete Funprint Drawing Book).

They also team-worked the chocolate cupcakes!

We found some extra fun at Ed Emberley's website (monster masks, mazes for Simon, and some paper airplanes). The website is also a great resource for picture pie instructions, fingerprint art, and drawing ideas!

We hope Mr. Emberley had a happy birthday; we sure do appreciate him!

I remember checking out the Ed Emberly drawing books from the library when I was a kid. I loved them then and found them again when my boys were younger, but I’m so glad you reminded me about them so I can share with my girls, too. I love your blog and the ideas you share.

Hi Ami..sorry for the late reply. Yes that sounds great! I’m assuming you probably mean the chalk board painting pic. That is totally fine, thanks for asking:) Blessings!

Send me a link when you post so I can check it out.

    Thanks,
    Forest Rose
