We've enjoyed Eve Bunting's Night Tree for many years now. "By moonlight in the quiet forest, a young boy and his family decorate their favorite tree with popcorn, apples, tangerines, and sunflower-seed balls as a gift for the animals of the woods."
This year we had the opportunity to complete a similar activity at one of our state parks. We all pitched in to get the decorations ready for our tree.

Once we had enough, we headed out to find a tree.
We chose a tree by the nature observation window, so we could head back inside and see if any animal friends decided to dine on the snacks we left behind.
After we made our way back inside, we waited and watched at the window. Finally, some birds found their way to our tree! Little black capped-chickadees were happy to get their gift from us.
We are reading Night Tree and making bird feeders tomorrow for our advent activity!! Love this book! 🙂
