Sandbox Writing {and free printable cards!}

October 26, 2011 by Ami 27 Comments

Free Printable Cards for Sandbox Writing from Walking by the Way. A great activity for preschoolers working on handwriting readiness.

Here is another pre-handwriting activity for your kiddo: Sandbox Writing.

Free Sandbox Writing Cards from Walking by the Way

I've seen this same idea (sandbox and cards) for alphabet writing, but I wanted something for Simon to help him practice basic handwriting strokes and shapes.

I created a set of 28 cards for him to use with the sandbox. You can snag your own set below. Be sure to laminate the cards for extra durability.

This is pure {pre-alphabet writing} fun!

    In Waldorf education, this is called form drawing, and the patterns become more complex through the grades. A great way to intro this activity is to have the child use his body first and walk the forms, then watch you draw them. Then he writes them in the sand, and eventually into his book (in first grade).

    These are great! I will use these in my writing center for Pre-K. The smily face is perfect because our writing curriculum uses a smily to show the kids where to start too!

    […] number five was a salt box with some pre-writing tracing cards. This was the first time we did this activity and MBS did really well with following the cards. […]
