E is for Egg

Please read the information about Read to Me & ABC here

Read to Me

Our main book of the week wasn’t a book– it was a nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty.  We also read lots of other nursery rhymes from the Random House book, but Humpty Dumpty had the spotlight.

Alphabet Art- Eggshell E

Supplies
Pattern (I used the large capital E)
glue
eggshells
paint, if desired (we used liquid watercolors)

We made egg salad for lunch.  After lunch, Simon smashed the eggshells, glued them on the E, then painted them.

Lessons & Lapbook

I used the lessons and lapbook from Homeschool Share.  I also used this puzzle from Making Learning Fun.

Simon loves (LOVES) to paint, so I decided to let him paint each E page (book at top left corner).

He insists on lots of brushes!

Final pages of the E book turned out like these ~

Here is the puzzle after Simon colored it.

I rubber cemented it to fun foam and then cut it out.  I made a pocket that says, "I can put Humpty Dumpty back together again!"  Simon put a band-aid on the pocket.  :)

Simon working on the sequence book while singing about Humpty Dumpty. :)

Let’s Make a Memory ~ Coloring Eggs & Egg Hunt!

I don’t know why, but I didn’t take any pictures of the egg hunt (bummer). We did this outside.  All but one egg was found (good thing we did this OUTSIDE).

Just a snippet that I always want to remember…
On Tuesday I was asking Simon to try and say the rhyme for us.  Here is Simon’s version and Elijah’s commentary.

Simon: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall…Humpty Dumpty had a great day!
Elijah: No, no, no.  Humpty Dumpty did not have a great day.  He had a HORRIBLE day.

I was cracking up (oops…no pun intended!).  :)

  1. What fantastic activities for E! I love all of these… he did such a great job. :) And I love the commentary while he recited the rhyme too! Thanks for sharing this… I’m new to your blog, but really liking all I see!

  2. Hey Ami
It’s good to see you back. After a long break in posting, I was worried about you. We started our letter notebook with Joshua three weeks ago. We’ve done a few letters that you haven’t posted yet(because they went well with what the girls were doing already). But he loves his letter folders, his letter book basket, and adding each completed letter to the notebook. Thanks for the fantastic idea and the new posts…hope your family is well…

  3. I’m so glad you add those little moments to your blog posts! I know 15-20 years from now we’ll look back on them and the memory of it will come flooding back!

    Love ya!

  4. I found your blog and loved the idea of alphabet folders. I totally am not crafty– I need those pictures. Who knew my son would LOVE to paint? We are on week 4 (E) He loves the whole concept and has taken to pointing out previous letters when we read books for the new week. Thank you for your inspiration.
