A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to go see Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs exhibit at the Indy Children’s Museum. It was amazing to behold so many items from so long ago. We saw gold sandals, a bed, canopic jars carved to look like the king, Egyptian jewelry, and so […]
While working through the Flight Unit Study, we decided to work in a Five in a Row unit,The Glorious Flight, focusing on Louis Bleriot. Field Trip! We visited a small local airport with our co-op friends. The pilot did a great job with the kids and answered all of our questions about his job and his […]
There were so many wonderful sights at the Botanical Conservatory. We started in the desert room.
On to the Rainforest Room! This was exceptionally fun. We saw epithytes (studied about these!), buttress roots (studied about these!) and even a cocoa tree!
One exhibit constantly changes at the conservatory. When we took our visit, it was filled with a game of CLUE! Elijah was so excited! Finally, he got to solve his first mystery.
I forgot to post pictures of these. I was going to post some pictures from our last field trip, and I remembered that I hadn’t even posted these yet! This was part of our rain forest study. They wouldn’t let us take pictures in the factory. Bummer. I guess they have to keep their secrets […]
Simon has been wanting to ride a train since he was born (honestly, I think this is a fair and true statement!). Last weekend, we had the opportunity to take the boys on a pumpkin train, so we did. We got to the yard early and had a few minutes to tour some old trains. Once […]
A pumpkin event that appealed to the senses! We touched pumpkins, tasted pumpkins & seeds (both raw and cooked), looked at the differences between vine fruits (pumpkins, gourds, and squash), and picked a pumpkin. Elijah said this was his "best field trip ever!" Gather ’round to learn about pumpkins! Lifecycle Craft From seed to leaf to […]

I am so behind in blogging all of our FIAR adventures (and our delight-directed studies such as Insects and Tigers…maybe I can get those posted soon!). Here are a few pictures of our Daniel’s Duck co-op. We met at a local park, and we toured a REAL log cabin! We are going to follow up this […]
After we rowed Little Nino’s Pizzeria, we went to a local pizza place with co-op and we…MADE PIZZA! Then we made pizza at home (Simon is beoming quite the pizza maker — if you like lots of mushrooms, that is). Every time we make pizza, Elijah wants to call it Little Nino’s Pizzeria Night.
Listening to the story. To the kitchen to learn how gingerbread was made long ago; she even showed them how the spices (nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves) were grated and ground. Let’s check the oven and see if the Gingerbread Man is ready to eat. He’s missing! Run, run as fast as you can and […]
When Elijah was four years old, he asked us if he could meet Jan Brett. He had fallen in love with the book Hedgie’s Surprise. She wasn’t in our area for her next tour, so I told him he would have to wait awhile. He then became attached to many other Brett books such as […]
Our group (well, most of our group!) Future Firefighter in the making? Elijah had a lot of questions for the firefighters including how do firefighters stay safe when there is a fire. He also asked where they keep their food and how many guys can fit in one truck. The highlight […]
We did and learned so much! We arrived at the farm to eat lunch at noon, and we were making our purchases in the gift shop at 3:30 p.m. It was a wonderful experience, and we are sure we will go back someday! It was great to be able to buy a honeycomb to […]
