James 1:27

I love adoption. Several of my dear friends and acquaintances have brought children home from 'round the globe– Korea, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, and Taiwan. Other friends have scooped children off of the foster care merry go-round and claimed them as their own. I love it; it's just a big fat hope booster.

But it's more than this warm fuzzy thing, isn't it? It is. As Christ followers, we are to care for orphans. It's not something we might need to do or a multiple choice option. We are to care for orphans.

When my sweet friend, Jenny, announced they were embarking on the adventure, I knew I wanted to put my hands to work. I had prayed for many of my friends' babies to make it home safely, but this time I had to do. I asked God to give me some way to encourage and assist. And so,our faithful Father gave me an idea (which happened to arrive in a moment of selfishness).

God is so good. You think He is going to reach down and rescue a child from a who-knows-what kind of life. And He is. But it's so much more. I mean really. Really. God is going to work in my life through my friend's adoption? God is going to whisk my friend away to places of trust and surrender . . . places she's never been before? Amazing . . . and just like Him.

If you'd like to take a peek at what I'm doing, please check out Pocketful of Rosies, and please spread the word! All the proceeds go to my sweet friend's family to get their dear little Biruk Abigail home. But more importantly than that, please find a tangible way to support adoption. Ask God to grind your heart up and to pour passion on you for those who have no hope. Ask Him what He wants your hands to do. And do it.

"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom." Ecclesiastes 9:10

Note: Once my friend's daughter came home, I sold the business to someone else as a last-push-effort to raise funds for my friend. Pocketful of Rosies is now owned by one young mother, allowing her stay home with her two young children.

Ami, I saw a link to your store on another blog and had no idea you were the one doing this. Gorgeous stuff, and great idea. My husband and I also have a heart for orphans and thought we would adopt some day. But as God continued to bless us with biological children, we started wondering if that was really what we should do. There are so many children out there who need homes, but there are also many infertile couple who love God and would love to pass that love on to a child, who are unable to afford the adoption process. It is our desire to do something to help those people. Good for you for finding a way you can help.
