Paul Revere’s Ride

For one of the lessons at co-op, we learned about Paul Revere and his family.  The Revere children would have had to make their own toys, so we made a toy– a cornhusk doll.

We also learned about the famous ride (according to the poem) and mapped the route.   We made our map look old using tea bags, torn edges, and by wadding it up into a ball.  We also rubbed oil on it when we got home.    I will post instructions and a template for this project on the Paul Revere Resource page at Homeschool Share as soon as I get a chance.

We didn’t do as much as I’d hoped this week.  We did read the story multiple times.  We also started our timeline!  WOO HOO!  I am so excited to get it on the wall (I may try to post pictures later).  We used eye hooks and fishing line to make four rows.  Then we cut/pasted a picture of Paul Revere to an index card.  Elijah wrote "Paul Revere’s Ride 1775" on the card and we put it up on the line with a clothespin.

Here is a project we did actually find time for.  Elijah helped with the stuffing and sewing.  Now, he can ride around and warn our entire household, "The British are coming!  The British are coming!"

You are so creative! And is the map made with a coffee filter? Maybe that would be an idea for the TYP unit…Anyway I posted the chili pie recipe link, on my blog there for you.

Ami that is so cool! I really love the map. We're rowing this title the first week of December. I'm looking forward to it and some Felicity stuff with my dd that week and for the month.
