The Story of Ferdinand

November 16, 2011 by Ami 8 Comments

I {heart} this tale– The Story of Ferdinand.

We started the week at co-op. I tried to give the kids a simple introduction to Spain.

We talked about kings and queens and made crowns; we practiced bowing and curtsying {which was great fun!}.

We learned Spanish color words and made little books.

We also had a merienda (light meal) of cheese cubes, green olives, black olives, almonds, and Nutella on bread.

While we ate we watched the Disney version of the story.

At home we continued with Five in a Row lessons and some other fun things.

We learned about our sense of smell with the Flip-Flap Body Book (from Usborne).

I made a few printables (which you'll find on HSS soon). Jason did the word building activity with Simon. I guess I didn't snap a picture, but those pages will be included in the printables, too.

Bull Knock-Out!

We measured Simon {he grew big and strong despite the dirty carpet}.

This led to Simon measuring the entire house with his Inchimals.

We also did a measuring art project. I would call out an inch mark, and Simon would draw a line that was that many inches long.

After he had plenty of lines (and shapes), he colored each shape with watercolor crayons. Then he painted the shapes.

Love it! {frame-able!}

Elijah joined in the fun, too. For some bonus learning, I had Elijah keep track of how many inches of line he used to draw his shapes. A little living math never hurts! {actually, based on his smile, maybe it does!}

    Can I ask what book it was that you used to talk about the sense of smell? It looks fantastic! Thanks & love your blog and homeschool share.

    Hi Kimberly,

    It’s an Usborne book – Flip Flap Body Book. It has been useful time and time again!
