Thundercake

July 14, 2007 by ami 3 Comments

We learned about
ordinal numbers
story sequence
Michigan
place setting (how to set the table)
the water cycle
onomatopoeia (Elijah’s favorite new word!)
repeating patterns and random placement

We hope to make a Thundercake tomorrow night, but we may just wait until we have some garden tomatoes.  Elijah got a big, fat piece of Thundercake today at the festival, so I think that will hold him off for awhile (or have the opposite effect now that he knows how yummy it is!).

We made a notebook with this title instead of a scrapbook or lapbook.  I don’t like it nearly as well, but Elijah walked his daddy through the enitre notebook with much enthusiasm!  I think it’s less overwhelming for Elijah (not as many flips and folds and he doesn’t know where to start showing daddy when it comes to his lapbook or scrapbook).

Here is what Elijah’s notebook looks like:

Hey Ami! So glad you have a blog now! šŸ™‚ I love his notebook pictures from Thundercake, you really do SUCH a good job! I need to know where you go that map that says "Where is Michigan?" I'm wanting a page like that for each book we read — did you make this? Find it somewhere? thanks! šŸ™‚

    Hi Candace!

I made it…I didn't make one for every state (because I only had a week subscription to clipart.com, and I could only do so much), but I did make 12– to match FIAR Volume III. I suppose you'll want me to email you my list! ~lol~ šŸ˜‰ I do hope to have all 50 done someday, but that will require another subscription and some extra TIME. šŸ™‚

Almost all the pages you see in the Thundercake Notebook will be available at Homeschool Share soon (a few things came from Patricia Polacco's website, too).

    šŸ™‚ Ami

I've asked the system to email you the HTML that you need to put in your blog template. Please do that when you get a chance. Glad to have you! We now have 6 members.
